For this assignment we were required to design a logo for an internet cafe called Wired With One. Here is my logo and examples of it used in the corporate identity kit:

For this assignment we were required to design a used car advertising feature for a newspaper. We were to use car images with clipping paths, which is basically a way of removing background imagery so that it is just the car itself against a neutral background. there are a number of ways of doing this. I took the lazy route by blocking out the background using white paint. It is clear from the less than perfect edges that this is the way I did it, and would not be sufficient for a professional job.

This assignment required me to design a simple logo for a Tshirt. I was feeling nostalgic for physical music sales, so here is my design:

For this assignment we were required to make a poster in Photoshop that was meant to look like a Western style Wanted poster, but was in fact an advertisement for Kmart Autos. I used such tools as sepia via duotone and loaded new brushes with scratch effects. Here is the result:

In the following assignment we were required to demonstrate our knowledge of imposition by designing an eight page article on typography dos and donts. Once the articles was designed and written, I then cropped and reduced the individual pages to A6 size, so that four could each fit on an A4 sheet of paper. They needed to then be placed in the right order of imposition so that when the pages are printed, folded and cut they would be in the correct order.

Here they are as individual pages:

Now as they would appear when correctly impositioned:

Here are links to the websites for some bookbinders and/or printers who were very helpful to me with my research into bookbinding:

Here is my interactive photobook.

In this assignment we were required to design a photobook with at least ten of our own photographs, and make it interactive, including buttons and page transitions.

In this assignment we were required to find and photograph "letters" to make a word which was relevant to the objects which represented the letters. We were not to use actual lettering, or manipulate materials to form letters. I found my letters in the Waddamana Power Station Museum.

This assignment was "Drawing With Type". We were asked to employ the type-on-a-path tool. The options were to use a famous speech or a nursery rhyme on a picture-path which was representative of the content of the text. I chose Barack Obama's recent historical statement in support of same-sex marriage, and illustrated it with the gay & lesbian symbols.

This assignment required us to use Illustrator to create a map of Tassie (so to speak). It was an exercise specifically designed to demonstrate the use of layers and the Pen Tool. We used an existing map as a template and then on each different layer would trace/create different elements of the map i.e. land, roads, town names, map outline, ocean.

Here is the postcard I designed for the final assessment task for the Design unit. It was to represent my own interpretation of "Colours of Australia". Each vertical band represents a state, in colour (my interpretation) and proportion of land mass. Left to right: WA; NT; SA; QLD; NSW; VIC; TAS.

The painting I've stretched along the top & bottom of the postcard is "Artetyerre" by Aboriginal artist Billy Benn Perrurle.

Here is the flyer I designed for our final assessment task for the Design unit.

In this assignment we were required to manipulate typeface to give meaning to a quote. We were to use only one typeface, and a single colour (including shades). I chose black & greys because I still think it's the most pleasing for text.

Another music video that I find exciting from a graphic design point of view. Simple, but beautiful.

For this assignment we were required to make a poster displaying the "Anatomy of Type".

This assignment was all about grids, layout & flow. Firstly we were asked to find examples of a magazine not using the grid system, then of an example from anywhere where the grid system is employed. We were also required to take an existing brochure and take apart the elements and rearrange the design flow.

If I could be anything I wanted, it would be a singer-songwriter. Second choice would be a music video director. Here is the kind of video I dream of making.

This assignment was all about typography. First, we had to match typeface to shoes according to the personality of the shoes & type; then we had to provide examples of different fonts in different categories of typeface; and finally reproduce information about typeface using the font it describes. The images, of course, are in the wrong order just to keep my multitudes of readers on their toes!

In this assignment we had to design a logo for a fruit shop called - what else? - Fruit Shop. The brief: A new upmarket fruit shop called Fruitshop requires an identity. They are after a modern
contemporary design that uses colour as the main design element. They don‟t want a logo that uses
typical fruit shapes. Fruitshop plans to stock a wide range of in season fruit sourced from around the
world.
This is what I came up with. Please don't steal my ideas, as exquisite as they are...

This assignment introduced me to the concept of positive and negative space, as well as whitespace. Attached are my own amateur attempts at utilising negative space, as well as examples of whitespace in existing use (print advertising; street advertising; website; own choice - for me, a CD cover).

This assignment was entitled "Typographic Portraits". We were required to represent personality with typography. It should be quite self explanatory. Again, my drawing skills are lacking, but again I enjoyed the assignment.
Each rectangle says "My name is Scott and I..." From left to right, top to bottom, the type is meant to represent: am a chameleon; have the hiccups; am a truck driver; am a professional footballer; am a chef; have a headache; am a gender illusionist; am a meteorologist. Some of the drawings are quite faint. Apologies.

This learning activity required us to "convey meaning by using simple shapes and space." It was an enjoyable challenge, especially as my free-hand drawing skills are not the best. We were given six words to represent with black squares, then were also asked to provide examples of business cards or advertisements demonstrating those words. This is how I interpreted the assignment.

The business cards, from top to bottom, are representative of the words: bold; congested; increase; order; playful; tension.

Here is my assignment 'Use The Scanner To Tell A Story". My image is very dodgy, quality wise, and the objects I have selected are a bit literal for my liking. I've had a lot of trouble with equipment. I don't have a decent scanner, and had to use a friend's. Once I returned home I realised I hadn't saved my first go at this image. So I've used a junky old scanner that my parents were throwing out. This is what I came up with. I'm not impressed. But I am very much a beginner, and there is definitely room for improvement!!

The requirement was just to use the scanner to tell a story. I read - or misread - it as tell a story about yourself. That is why I've picked really obvious objects which point to aspects of my personality or activities. However, I now realise I could have told a story about anything. Must think more laterally!
